A forty-minute drive beyond Bagan’s landscape of pagodas lies the geologic and cultural wonder known as Popa Mountain. Popa Mountain, at 5000 ft, creates its own weather. The lush moisture found on Popa’s hillsides stands in total contrast to the arid Bagan plains. Immediately adjacent to Popa Mountain is Popa Taungkalat-an other worldly volcanic plug. Location
Mt. Popa, known as Myanmar’s Mt. Olympus, is a forest clad landmark arising 5000 ft. above sea level and is a place of special importance in both the Country’s History & Culture. The natural springs, flowers and wooded hillsides greatly contrast to the arid lands surrounding it and therefore called the “Oasis of the dry zone”. The climate is also totally different from neighboring Bagan & Myingyan.
